The actual physical construction of the hut should take place in an
urban setting where volunteer labour can be utilized. Once completed the
hut is transported by truck to the nearest road end, and then
helicopter airlifted to site in parts onto a pre prepared steel frame
foundation and bolted together.
All materials should be
of a very high standard and be aimed towards minimum maintenance and
maximum life span. The interior should be well lit via double glazed
glass windows. A water tank should collect rain water. There should be
no provision for solar lighting or gas cooking. The provision of a
toilet should be decided based on DoC policy, i.e. if environmental
impact is minimal then no toilet is required.
